The Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock thrives with a packed autumn of music and comedy

After a period of closure, The Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock reopened its doors in 2023. Three years on it is busier than ever, with an autumn programme that has filled the town's evenings with pop, jazz, theatre and comedy.
The centre is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who aim to bring high-quality arts experiences to rural Shropshire. Its programme mixes live music, spoken word, theatre, comedy and community events with Monday and Thursday night cinema, including Exhibition on Screen and National Theatre Live.
October 2026 showed what that looks like in practice. The centre welcomed 911 on their 30th anniversary tour, an evening of Much Ado About Jazz, and Canadian singer-songwriter Duane Forrest with two performances of How Reggae Changed the World. The centre's own reviewers said 911 "bring the house down with a joyful celebration of 90s pop", and called the jazz night "a masterclass in musical craftsmanship", an evening of top-class playing and infectious humour.
It also hosted a landmark for Telford and District Light Operatic Players. The amateur dramatics charity staged Frozen the Musical as its 100th show, a Shropshire premiere, at The Edge from 22 to 24 October. TADLOP has been bringing "a little of the West End" to the area since 1972. Its members rehearse twice a week to stage two full-scale musicals every year, and The Edge's review called Frozen "a spectacular triumph".
Next up is a rock and roll storyteller. Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder brings his Q&A show, promoting his book 24 Hour Party Person, to The Edge on Saturday 7 November. His tour promoters promise "a carnival of excess, wild tales, and improbable truths".
The volunteers describe The Edge as proof that creativity flourishes in the countryside, one performance at a time.
