A Whitchurch pub has been recognised as one of the best places in the country for a pint of cask ale. The Crafty Dragon on Mill Street has been included in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide for the second time.

Each entry in the guide is chosen through a rigorous selection process, and the book lists more than 4,500 recommended pubs, along with a brewery section covering 1,700 breweries and 5,000 beers.

The Crafty Dragon has eight hand pulls, six serving cask ale from Magic Dragon Brewing and two pouring cider. On the back taps there is beer from Magic Dragon and other independent breweries from across the UK, as well as gins, wines and spirits. The pub also holds a Cask Marque award for quality cask ale.

It is much more than a place to drink, though. The dog-friendly pub opens every day and hosts open mic nights, games and quiz nights, and Free Cheese Fridays from 5pm, which together have earned it a reputation as a real ale lovers' favourite with a lively community feel.

"We're absolutely delighted to be included in the Good Beer Guide for a second time," said assistant manager Jon Gudgion. "This recognition is a testament to the fantastic independent breweries we work with, our knowledgeable and passionate team, and our customers who appreciate the quality and variety of the beers we serve."

He added: "We're incredibly grateful for the continued support of the Whitchurch community and visitors from further afield. Their loyalty enables us to keep championing great beer and creating a welcoming pub for everyone to enjoy."

The pub is part of the town's wider food and drink scene. In May 2026 it joined The Black Bear, The Bulls Head and the Wheatsheaf Hotel on a mini ale trail around the town centre during the Whitchurch Food and Drink Festival in Jubilee Park.

The Crafty Dragon is on Mill Street in Whitchurch and is open every day. Look out for its open mic and quiz nights on the pub's social media pages.
