Shifnal Balti wins two national titles after more than 30 years in Shifnal

It has been quite an autumn for Shifnal Balti. The family-run restaurant on Broadway in Shifnal has collected two national titles in a matter of weeks, more than three decades after it first opened its doors in 1995.
First came the Prestige Awards, which named Shifnal Balti Indian Restaurant of the Year 2026/27. The awards celebrate small and independent businesses that consistently deliver quality and service in their region. Weeks later the restaurant was named Best Indian Restaurant 2026/27 at the British Curry and Catering Awards.
The double comes in a year when the restaurant was also included in the 2026 edition of Harden's Restaurant Guide, adding to a long list of recognition. In 2013 it was named the Cobra Good Curry Guide's West Midlands Regional Winner.
Over the years Shifnal Balti has caught the attention of notable figures in the food world, including the late Pat Chapman, founder of The Curry Club and the Good Curry Guide. During a visit he dubbed the restaurant's signature tandoori lamb chops the "Fred Flintstone Lamb Chops", and the name is still on the menu today. The menu also includes the Bilson Balti, created in memory of the late David "Dave" Billson, a close friend and mentor to the business.
"To receive the title of Indian Restaurant of the Year after more than 30 years of serving Shifnal is a wonderful honour," said Faz of Shifnal Balti. "Our team works incredibly hard, and we're so grateful to every customer who has supported us since we opened our doors in 1995. We're incredibly proud to represent Shifnal and to put our town on the map."
After the second win the team added: "We are especially grateful to the generations of customers who have supported us throughout more than 30 years in Shifnal. We know both Pat Chapman and Dave Billson would have been so proud today."
Manager Faz Ali gave special thanks to family, friends and customers from Shifnal, Telford, Shrewsbury and beyond for their loyalty and support throughout the Shifnal Balti journey. The restaurant is also a keen supporter of the town. Earlier in 2026 it marked 31 years in business with an evening featuring George Michael tribute act Adrian Michaels, and donated a meal for two as the prize in Love Shifnal's Valentine's campaign for local traders.
Shifnal Balti is on Broadway in the centre of Shifnal. Table reservations and takeaway orders can be made through the Shifnal Balti website.
