Lilleshall National Sports Centre near Newport keeps its elite training status

Near Newport, Lilleshall National Sports Centre has long been one of the quiet engines of British sport. This year it was reaccredited as a UK Sport Elite Training Centre, confirming its place in the UK's high-performance sporting system.

The accreditation recognises Lilleshall's role in providing a world-class daily training environment where athletes, coaches and practitioners can perform at their best. To achieve it, centres must show excellence across facilities, people, partnerships and athlete support, along with a commitment to continuous improvement.

The centre supports national governing bodies, elite athletes, community clubs and teams across sports including gymnastics, archery, hockey and football. Its facilities include dedicated gymnastics halls with Olympic-standard equipment, indoor and outdoor pitches for football and hockey, specialist sports halls for multi-sport training and an elite strength and conditioning gym.

"This recognition is a fantastic achievement for everyone at Lilleshall National Sports Centre," said Laurie Jamie-Williams, head of strategic partnerships. "Being named again as a UK Sport Elite Training Centre reflects the quality of our facilities, the expertise of our team, and the strength of the partnerships that support elite sport across the UK."

She added that the centre's focus is on giving athletes and their support teams "the environment, resources and specialist support they need to perform at their best," and on supporting both current athletes and the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic talent.

As part of the UK-wide Elite Training Centre network, Lilleshall works with other leading centres so athletes can benefit from shared expertise, innovation and high-quality facilities. Its role runs from talent pathways right through to elite training camps.

Lilleshall describes itself as one of the UK's flagship high-performance training environments. With a long-standing legacy in British sport, it has supported athletes and teams at every stage of their journey, from talent development through to international success.
